Avenue's Ricky Zayshley

Ricky Zayshley has always been a bit different than his peers. While other boys were busy beating each other up and wiping out on pint-sized motorbikes, Ricky was tirelessly redecorating his room and perfecting piecrust (the secret, he discovered, is very cold ingredients). Ricky’s sartorial aspirations found a natural fit when he moved from his hometown of Yorkton, Saskatchewan to Toronto to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting and a Bachelor of Journalism, both at Ryerson University. After a stint at CTV National News, Ricky joined the team at Fashion Quarterly magazine—and thus his mentorship with fashion icon Jeanne Beker began. Most recently, he served as Senior Production Coordinator at Beker’s internationally celebrated show Fashion Television. Alas, the prairies have called Ricky back home. He is now the associate editor at Avenue magazine in Calgary, where he oversees all fashion and home decor content.

Executive Chef, Geoff Rogers - MARKET

Based in Calgary, Chef Geoff Rogers’ culinary career began more than a decade ago.  Without prior experience, he worked his way up and moved around within restaurants from Cornerstone, Vintage Chophouse, Muse, River Café and most recently Home Tasting Room to gain more knowledge and experience.

His cooking style features techniques such as whole animal butchery, curing, cheese making and preserving. He has also introduced more modernist techniques to elevate his creativity and provide more options to highlight and accentuate ingredients. Over the past few years he has received numerous awards and won several culinary competitions. He was also featured on the cover of Avenue Magazine’s 2012 annual food issue.

Geoff believes chefs and restaurants should support their local community by shopping within their "borders" and supporting local farmers and producers who share the same slow food ideals.

Chef Rogers is currently the Executive Chef at MARKET. MARKET is a chef-driven restaurant that provides an arm’s reach approach to cooking by sourcing quality base ingredients regionally to produce bread and cheese in-house, to butcher and cure internally, and to grow their own greens and herbs with Calgary's first commercial Urban Cultivator, an internal home garden.
